Walgreen Co. announced that it has completed its purchase of a regional drugstore chain in the mid-South region of the United States from Stephen L. LaFrance Holdings, Inc. and members of the LaFrance family. The transaction includes 144 stores that operate under the USA Drug, Super D Drug, May's Drug, Med-X and Drug Warehouse names located in Arkansas, Kansas, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, Oklahoma and Tennessee. The acquisition also includes corporate offices, a distribution center located in Pine Bluff, Ark., and a wholesale and private brand business, for a total of approximately $438 million subject to adjustment in certain circumstances. The chain recorded sales of $825 million in 2011. |
Walgreen is a drugstore chain that sells prescription and non-prescription drugs as well as general merchandise. Co.'s pharmacy, health and wellness services include retail, specialty, infusion and respiratory services, mail service, convenient care clinics and wellness centers. Co.'s Take Care Health Systems, Inc. subsidiary is a manager of in-store convenient care clinics (Healthcare Clinics). At Aug 31 2014, Co. operated 8,309 locations in 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands, excluding 437 Healthcare Clinics and 48 worksite pharmacies that are operated primarily within Co.'s Walgreens drugstores or locations of unconsolidated partially owned entities.
