GSH: mainly engaged in passenger and freight transportation businesses on the Shenzhen-Guangzhou-Pingshi Railway, which is 481.2 kilometers long, running vertically through Guangdong Province. Passenger transportation is its principal business. As of December 31, 2009, it operated 218 pairs of passenger trains in accordance with its daily train schedule, including 100 pairs of intercity express trains between Guangzhou and Shenzhen, 13 pairs of Hong Kong Through Trains (including 11 pairs of Guangzhou-Kowloon Through Trains, one pair of Zhaoqing-Kowloon Through Trains and one pair of Beijing/Shanghai-Kowloon Through Trains) and 105 pairs of long-distance passenger trains. Freight transportation is another important segment of the Company's business. It is equipped with various freight facilities, and can transport full-load cargo, single-load cargo, containers, bulky and overweight cargo, dangerous cargo, fresh and live cargo, and oversized cargo. NSC: controls a freight railroad, Norfolk Southern Railway Company. Norfolk Southern Railway Company is primarily engaged in the rail transportation of raw materials, intermediate products, and finished goods primarily in the Southeast, East, and Midwest and, through interchange with rail carriers, to and from the rest of the United States. Norfolk Southern also transports overseas freight through several Atlantic and Gulf Coast ports. Norfolk Southern provides logistics services and offers intermodal network in the eastern half of the United States. Norfolk Southern and CSX Corporation (CSX) jointly own Conrail Inc. (Conrail), whose primary subsidiary is Consolidated Rail Corporation (CRC). PRPX: manufactures, supplies and distributes a range of rail products, including rail joints, rail anchors, rail spikes, railway friction management products and systems, railway wayside data collection and data management systems, and freight car securement systems. The Company also manufactures material handling equipment for industries outside the rail transportation sector at its United Kingdom operation. It serves both the domestic and international markets. The Company operates through four global business segments consisting of Railway Maintenance Products Division (RMP), Shipping Systems Division (SSD), Portec Rail Nova Scotia Company (Canada) and Portec Rail Products (UK) Ltd. (United Kingdom). |
