LyondellBasell Industries N.V. (NYSE: LYB) today announced that at its Annual General Meeting, shareholders approved a proposal to authorize the company to repurchase up to 10 percent of the company's outstanding stock. As a result, the Supervisory Board has approved a share repurchase program of up to 10 percent of the company's shares over the next 12 months. The repurchases will be executed from time to time through open market or privately negotiated transactions.
LyondellBasell Industries is a chemical company. Co.'s chemicals businesses consist primarily of processing plants that convert liquid and gaseous hydrocarbon feedstock into plastic resins and other chemicals. Co.'s customers use its plastics and chemicals to manufacture a range of products that people use in their lives including food packaging, home furnishings, automotive components, paints and coatings. Co.'s refining business processes crude oil into fuels such as gasoline, diesel and jet fuel. Co. operates in five segments: Olefins and Polyolefins - Americas; Olefins and Polyolefins - Europe, Asia, International; Intermediates and Derivatives; Refining; and Technology.
