Sandy Spring Bancorp, Inc., (Nasdaq- SASR), the parent company of Sandy Spring Bank, today announced that the Company's board of directors has authorized the repurchase of up to $50 million of the Company's common stock. The Company completed its previously authorized stock repurchase plan with the purchase of 2,350,000 shares at an average price of $45.65. Repurchases, which will be conducted through open market purchases or privately negotiated transactions, will be made from time to time depending on market conditions, the market price of the Company's common stock and other factors. This stock repurchase program has no time limit and may be modified, suspended or discontinued at any time. In light of trading black-out restrictions, no purchases will be made until following the first quarter earnings release in mid-April.

Sandy Spring Bancorp is a bank holding company. Through its subsidiary, Sandy Spring Bank, Co. conducts commercial banking, mortgage banking and trust business. Services to individuals and businesses include accepting deposits, extending credit to buy real estate or equipment, consumer and commercial loans and lines of credit, and investment and wealth management services. Co. operates in central Maryland, Northern Virginia and the greater Washington D.C. market. Co. also invests primarily in U.S. Treasury and Agency securities, U.S. Agency mortgage-backed and asset-backed securities, U.S. Agency collateralized mortgage obligations, municipal bonds and, to a minimal extent, corporate bonds.
