Tuesday Sector Leaders: Healthcare, Utilities

The best performing sector as of midday Tuesday is the Healthcare sector, higher by 1.0%. Within the sector, Vertex Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:VRTX) and Mylan Inc (NASDAQ:MYL) are two large stocks leading the way, showing a gain of 41.0% and 1.8%, respectively. Among healthcare ETFs, one ETF following the sector is the Health Care Select Sector SPDR ETF (AMEX:XLV), which is up 0.5% on the day, and up 10.38% year-to-date. Vertex Pharmaceuticals, Inc., meanwhile, is up 26.45% year-to-date, and Mylan Inc is up 19.08% year-to-date. Combined, VRTX and MYL make up approximately 1.8% of the underlying holdings of XLV.
The next best performing sector is the Utilities sector, higher by 0.6%. Among large Utilities stocks, Wisconsin Energy Corp. (NYSE:WEC) and Integrys Energy Group Inc (NYSE:TEG) are the most notable, showing a gain of 2.0% and 1.6%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Utilities stocks is the Utilities Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLU), which is up 0.6% in midday trading, and up 16.63% on a year-to-date basis. Wisconsin Energy Corp., meanwhile, is up 12.68% year-to-date, and Integrys Energy Group Inc is up 30.14% year-to-date. Combined, WEC and TEG make up approximately 3.0% of the underlying holdings of XLU.
